What is Open Water Diver course?

The Open Water Diver course

is your first real diving certification, offered by scuba diving agencies around the world. It’s built for people who have never dived before, and it teaches you the skills and knowledge you need to dive safely.

You’ll cover dive theory, how to use your equipment, underwater communication, dive planning, and safety procedures, mixing classroom sessions with time in the water. Most courses start in confined water, usually a pool, where you practice the basic scuba skills before you move on to

open water dives.

Successfully

completing the

Open Water Diver course

earns you a certification that lets you and your dive buddy dive together down to about

40 feet.

That card stays with you for life, and it lets you dive at sites

worldwide.

Different scuba diving agencies, such as

PADI or SSI

, each run their own version of the Open Water Diver course, but the core is the same. Pick a good agency and you get

top-notch training

and a certification that’s recognised wherever you choose to dive.
