PADI Enriched Air Diver

PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox/EANx) is the most popular PADI specialty certification worldwide. It replaces some of the nitrogen in standard air with extra oxygen. That means less nitrogen absorption, longer no-decompression limits, and less fatigue on repetitive dive days.

Unlike the SSI Nitrox course (theory-only), the PADI Enriched Air course includes 2 recommended Nitrox dives, so you see the extended NDLs on your dive computer right after the theory.

PADI Enriched Air — Course Content

The course combines PADI eLearning theory with practical gas analysis training and 2 optional Nitrox dives.

PADI eLearningFlexible digital theory available before arriving in Goa. Covers Nitrox physics, oxygen toxicity, maximum operating depth (MOD) calculation, and dive planning.
Oxygen Toxicity PhysicsPartial pressure of oxygen (PPO2), MOD calculation for EANx32 and EANx36, CNS clock concept, staying within the 1.4 bar PPO2 recreational limit.
Gas Analysis TrainingUsing an O2 analyser to verify the mix in your cylinder before every Nitrox dive. Required by PADI standards — no analysis, no Nitrox dive.
Nitrox Dive PlanningUsing PADI Nitrox tables or dive computer Nitrox mode. Equivalent air depth (EAD) calculations. Planning a multi-dive Nitrox day.
Nitrox Computer ProgrammingSetting your PADI/ScubaPro Aladin Sport computer to Nitrox mode with the correct O2 percentage and MOD alarm.

Prerequisites for PADI Enriched Air Nitrox

PADI Open Water Diver (or equivalent from any major agency)
Age 10 or older
No additional dives beyond those included in the course
No prior specialty training required
An SSI Open Water Diver certificate is accepted as equivalent to PADI Open Water for entry into this course. You do not need to hold a PADI certification to take a PADI specialty.

2 Nitrox Certification Dives — Grandé Island

Unlike the SSI Nitrox course, the PADI Enriched Air course includes 2 recommended Nitrox dives as part of the certification.

What you will notice on the Nitrox dives: Your dive computer will display significantly longer NDLs at typical reef depths (10–18m) compared to air dives. At 18m on EANx32, your NDL is approximately 95 minutes vs 56 minutes on air. This is immediately visible on the Aladin Sport computer display.

Coral gardens, moray eels, snappers, parrotfish. The primary training reef — gentle conditions and rich marine life.
