Where to dive in 2024, month by month
We put together a list of 12 dive destinations for 2024, one for each month, picked for when the diving is at its best. Whether you’ve logged hundreds of dives or you’re still working on your first, there’s something here for you.
January: Grand Cayman, the Cayman Islands
Start the year in Grand Cayman. It has 14 dive sites, including Stingray City, plus warm water and reliable sunshine in January.
February: Raja Ampat, Indonesia
February is peak season for marine diversity in Raja Ampat, Indonesia. You’ll find everything from muck diving to barracuda, tuna and sharks here.
March: Hawaii, USA
March is a good month for Hawaii. You can dive lava tubes and rock formations, and the marine life includes Galapagos sharks, tiger sharks and humpback whales.
April: Fuvahmulah, Maldives
Head to Fuvahmulah in the Maldives, known for oceanic manta rays, tiger sharks and whale sharks. April gives you the best odds of seeing them.
May: Great Barrier Reef, Australia
May is the month for the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Over 2500 kilometers of coral reef and 144 dive sites, with whales, turtles, dolphins and plenty of shark species.
June: Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
June is for the Galapagos Islands. The wildlife here is hard to beat: whale sharks, manta rays, marine iguanas, penguins and sea lions, across 16 dive sites.
July: Malta and Gozo
July suits Malta and Gozo in the Mediterranean. There are 81 dive sites here, including the Blue Hole and the Madonna Statue, with warm water and good weather.
August: Cyprus
August is for Cyprus. The island has a lively nightlife topside, and underwater you’ll find easy shore dives plus the Zenobia wreck, home to big grouper and loggerhead turtles.
September: Fiji
September is Fiji’s month, known for its soft corals. Expect wall dives along with bull sharks, whale sharks and manta rays, whatever kind of diving you’re after.
October: Dahab, Egypt
October takes you to Dahab in Egypt, with its warm water and the well-known Blue Hole. It’s quieter here than most spots, with easy shore diving and healthy corals in the Red Sea.
November: Cenotes, Mexico
In November, head to the cenotes of Mexico’s Yucatan. These flooded cave systems work for technical divers and beginners alike, with shafts of natural light cutting through the water.
December: The Western Gulf Islands, Thailand
Finish the year in Thailand’s Western Gulf Islands. The water is calm and clear, with whale sharks, grouper, triggerfish and barracuda to round out 12 months of diving.
