The SSI Zero to Hero Bundle is exactly what it sounds like: you arrive with no diving experience and leave as a qualified SSI DiveMaster — the first professional level in recreational scuba diving. Every course, certification, and internship hour required to reach DiveMaster is included in a single bundled price.

FlyingFish runs the Zero to Hero program as a structured pathway: Open Water → Nitrox → Advanced Adventurer → Stress & Rescue → React Right → logged dive building → DiveMaster training → 30–60 day internship. You progress through each stage with the same instructors at the same centre.

Zero to Hero — Complete Course Pathway

60–90 Days of Diving at Grandé Island, Goa

Every single dive during the Zero to Hero program takes place at Grandé Island — 30 minutes by speedboat from Novotel Candolim. By the end, you know every dive site on the island in every condition.

60–90 days is the typical range depending on dive day frequency, weather, and your pace through the prerequisite courses. Students who arrive fit, swim-capable, and without anxiety typically complete prerequisites in 2–3 weeks, then spend 30–60 days on the DiveMaster internship. Students who need more time are accommodated — the 90-day estimate is conservative.

SSI is one of the two largest scuba certification agencies globally. SSI DiveMaster is recognised at SSI-affiliated centres worldwide. Many PADI-exclusive resorts require PADI DiveMaster. If your plan after Zero to Hero is to work at a specific resort, verify their agency requirement — we can advise on PADI DiveMaster as an alternative if needed.

Most people who successfully complete Zero to Hero have swum in pools or rivers but not the ocean. Ocean swimming is a skill that develops rapidly during the Open Water course. Pool confidence (200m swim) is the real starting requirement. Fear of open water can be overcome — we have seen it regularly — but the process takes longer and involves emotional as well as physical adjustment.

Goa accommodation near Candolim for 60–90 days ranges from approximately ₹15,000–40,000/month depending on type. Budget guesthouses and shared rooms start at ₹15,000. Private apartments or hotel rooms are ₹25,000–40,000+. Many Zero to Hero students share accommodation with other dive students, which reduces costs significantly. We provide a current list of recommended options.

We offer employment to qualified DiveMasters on a seasonal basis subject to demand. Zero to Hero graduates have priority consideration. There is no guarantee, but our track record of placing graduates — either at FlyingFish or at partner centres in Goa and the Andamans — is strong. We recommend Zero to Hero students communicate their post-program goals early so we can plan accordingly.

Goa-based Zero to Hero programs benefit from year-round dive season (Oct–May reliable, Jun–Sep more variable), lower cost of living versus Thai and Maldivian destinations, and proximity to India's growing domestic dive market. FlyingFish's specific advantage is small group sizes and genuine professional internship rather than observation. Programs in Thailand and the Maldives can be more expensive and have higher student-to-instructor ratios during peak season.
