What exactly is the referral course?

The PADI system lets you split your training, which helps if you can't do the whole course in one place. You complete the knowledge development (eLearning or classroom) and the confined water (pool) sessions with a PADI dive centre near home. Your instructor there signs off on your progress and gives you official PADI referral paperwork that records what you've already done. You then bring that referral form to another PADI dive centre, almost anywhere in the world. That's where we come in. Bring your valid PADI referral form (good for 12 months) to FlyingFish Scuba School and we'll take you through the last part: the four required open water training dives, with our instructors. It's a convenient way to do the PADI Open Water Course. You handle the theory and pool work at your own pace at home, then do the ocean dives on holiday in Goa.

Here's how it works: • Contact Us: Reach out to FlyingFish Scuba School before your trip. Tell us you are a PADI referral student. We can discuss dates and answer any questions. • Bring Your Paperwork: This is crucial. You MUST bring your official PADI referral documentation. Your previous instructor must have signed and dated it within the last 12 months. Bring your logbook too. • Meet Your Instructor: We will introduce you to your PADI instructor. They will review your referral paperwork. They might ask a few questions to refresh your knowledge. We want to ensure you feel comfortable and ready. • Schedule Your Dives: We will schedule your four open water training dives. This usually happens over two days. Two dives per day is typical. • Go Diving! This is the exciting part. You head out to local Goan dive sites. Your instructor guides you through the required skills during the dives. You will practice things like buoyancy control, mask clearing, and navigation in the actual ocean environment. You also get plenty of time to simply explore and enjoy the underwater world. What to expect during your open water dives Your four dives are the transition to diving on your own. Your instructor helps you apply the skills you learned in the pool, and you'll show you can handle the key procedures in open water. They're real dives too, not just skill checks. You descend into the blue, watch the sunlight filter down, and follow your instructor over the reefs while the fish go about their day. You work on hovering and learn to navigate with a compass and natural references. Each dive builds your confidence and competence. After you've completed all the skills across the four dives, your instructor processes your certification. Congratulations! You are now a fully certified PADI Open Water Diver, ready to explore the underwater world globally up to 18 meters (60 feet)! Course Completion Includes: • Four Open Water Training Dives guided by a certified PADI Instructor. • Rental of all necessary scuba equipment for the dives (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, mask, snorkel, fins). • Tanks and weights for your dives. • Professional guidance and skill evaluation. • Processing of your final PADI Open Water Diver certification upon successful completion. Already completed your PADI eLearning and pool sessions? Bring your PADI Referral to FlyingFish in Goa and complete the final 4 open water certification dives in warm, clear Arabian Sea water at Grandé Island.

FlyingFish is a PADI-certified dive centre. Your 4 certification dives are conducted by a PADI Instructor, meeting PADI's international training standards. Your PADI Open Water Diver certification is processed through PADI and issued digitally within 24–48 hours of completing the dives.

PADI Referrals are valid for 12 months from the date your theory and pool training were completed. Bring your PADI Referral form (paper or digital) and your PADI Student ID number.

What Happens During the PADI Referral Dives

Your theory and pool skills are complete. The referral dives assess your ability to perform those skills in the ocean:

Skill Demonstration — Dives 1 & 2 (~12m)Mask clear, regulator recovery, controlled emergency swimming ascent (CESA), buoyancy check, buddy air sharing. Same skills as pool — now in open water.
