Can non-swimmers scuba dive?
Most scuba diving is set up for people who can swim. You don’t have to be a strong swimmer, but you should be able to float and move around in the water on your own. That matters for safety. If you lose your regulator or need to get to the surface quickly, those skills let you handle yourself.
That said, there are programs built for people who can’t swim well but still want to try scuba diving. These usually involve more training, and they may limit the conditions or depth you dive in. Kids, too, often need close supervision from a qualified instructor.
Scuba diving without knowing how to swim can be risky, so talk to a dive center or instructor before you book. They’ll check that it’s safe for you and tell you if you need any extra training first. With a water sport like scuba diving, getting the right advice up front is worth it.
