Luxury liveaboards among manta rays & whale sharks
The Maldives is one of the best liveaboard destinations going. Warm water, coral atolls, and reliable encounters with manta rays and whale sharks. You drift the channels with reef sharks, dive thilas covered in soft coral, and do night dives that stick with you. Most boats leave from Malé, a short flight from India.
Budget-friendly liveaboards, top-tier diving
The Similan Islands have some of the best diving in Southeast Asia. Big granite boulders, healthy reefs, and plenty of marine life, including manta rays at Koh Bon. Boats leave from Khao Lak and Thailand is one of the cheapest places in the world to do a liveaboard, so it makes a good first one.
The planet's richest marine biodiversity
Indonesia sits in the Coral Triangle, the most biodiverse marine region on Earth. Raja Ampat's reefs hold more species per square metre than anywhere else. Komodo means fast drift dives with mantas and sharks, plus the dragons on land. Two very different regions, and each is worth its own trip.
Famous wrecks & healthy coral walls
The Red Sea gives you warm, clear water all year, famous wrecks like the SS Thistlegorm, and coral walls covered in life. Egypt runs some of the cheapest liveaboards anywhere, leaving from Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh. Brothers Islands and Elphinstone are the sites most divers come for.
Bucket-list diving with hammerheads & marine iguanas
The Galápagos is a trip experienced divers save up for. Schools of hundreds of hammerheads, sea lions, marine iguanas, whale sharks, and penguins. The currents are strong and the water is cold, but there is nothing else quite like it. You need solid experience to do it.
Emerging destination with wrecks, whales & warm waters
Sri Lanka is coming up fast as a dive destination, and it's a short flight from India. Dive British-era shipwrecks off Colombo, blue whales in Trincomalee, and the reefs at Hikkaduwa and Pigeon Island. It's cheap, still uncrowded, and worth getting to before everyone else does.
UNESCO reefs & one of Asia's best dive regions
The Philippines has 7,600+ islands and serious marine diversity. Tubbataha Reef Natural Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is reachable only by liveaboard and ranks among the world's top 10 dive sites. The Visayas give you sardine runs, thresher sharks, and whale sharks year-round.
Off-the-beaten-path diving in the Arabian Sea
Oman is one of the Middle East's quieter dive spots. Long coastline, uncrowded sites, and the marine life of the Arabian Sea. The Daymaniyat Islands have clear water with turtles, rays, and whale sharks. Up in Musandam, the fjords make a striking backdrop for drift dives with dolphins and barracuda schools.
