SSI Waves, tides and currents course

The SSI Waves, Tides, and Currents program is designed to help divers and non-divers understand how water movements impact underwater environments and diving conditions. This course equips participants with the knowledge and skills to safely and effectively manage these environmental factors during their aquatic adventures.

Course Overview

1. Theoretical Course
   At Flying Fish, we provide engaging theory sessions. Topics covered include:
• How waves, tides, and currents are formed
• Impacts of water movement on marine environments and ecosystems
• Reading tide tables and current charts
• Predicting water movement for safe dive planning
• Techniques for diving in current-heavy environments
  Our experienced instructors will guide you through these concepts, ensuring a thorough understanding through practical examples and real-life scenarios.

1. Practical Applications 
   Certified divers can participate in practical sessions that focus on:
• Entry and exit techniques in waves or surf zones
• Drift diving techniques for managing currents
• Dive planning based on tidal and current conditions
  Non-divers can opt for snorkeling or eco-tour activities that include lessons on recognizing and safely interacting with changing water conditions.

1. Interactive Activities
   Participants will enhance their learning through:
• Case studies of marine environments influenced by water movement
• Viewing underwater videos showing the effects of waves, tides, and currents
• Group discussions to reinforce safety measures for water-based activities

Certification

On successful completion, participants will earn an SSI Waves, Tides, and Currents Specialty certification available on the MySSI app. This certification highlights your knowledge of aquatic environments and your ability to adapt safely to challenging conditions.
